Inside Wogan Cavern: Fresh insights from the 2026 excavations with Dr Rob Dinnis

The fascinating work at Wogan Cavern continues! Join us for another exciting session with Dr Rob Dinnis, who is leading the ongoing excavations in the cave.

Wogan Cavern is a remarkable prehistoric site, offering a unique glimpse into life in Pembroke over many tens of thousands of years. We now know humans lived there periodically during and just after the last Ice Age, over at least the last 40,000 years, and probably even earlier. Even further back in time, hippo bones hint the cave could tell us about the last 120,000 years!

Dr Dinnis will give you an exciting insight into the work the team have done so far, and what has changed with the start of the new project. He and other project members will explain the excavation undertaken in 2026 and show some of the new prehistoric artefacts found. They will also share their initial thoughts from this year’s dig, as well as provide an update on the project’s latest research findings. Dr Dinnis will also lead a tour of the cave, to explain our most up-to-date thoughts about its prehistoric occupants.
